Nemat Law is intentionally small. When you retain the firm, you work with Tom Nemat directly, from your first conversation through the day your plan is signed, funded, and filed. There’s no associate assigned to your file and no rotating point of contact. Just one attorney who knows your situation as well as you do.
Estate planning isn’t a form to fill out. It’s a series of decisions about your family, your business, and everything you’ve built, decisions that deserve an attorney who has time for you. Tom only takes on clients he’s confident he can meaningfully help, and limits how many he takes on at any given time. He’s built a successful portfolio of businesses independent of his law practice, so growing a client roster was never the goal here. Depth was.
Tom Nemat has been immersed in the legal field since 2005 and has practiced as a licensed California attorney since 2008. Before founding the Law Firm of Tom Nemat, he worked at one of the nation’s Top 100 estate planning firms, as ranked by Worth Magazine, experience that shaped the practice he runs today. He has also been recognized by Super Lawyers Magazine, an honor based on a peer-nominated, research-driven evaluation process.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and a Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He is also a licensed California real estate broker and holds California health, life, and property & casualty insurance licenses.
Tom’s office is in Newport Beach, convenient to the freeway and John Wayne Airport. He works primarily with individuals and families in Irvine, Newport Beach, Laguna Hills, and the surrounding communities, and nearly all of his clients come by referral, from past clients, financial advisors, and other attorneys.
What sets Tom apart isn’t only his legal training. He’s also an entrepreneur. As founder and CEO of multiple healthcare companies based in Southern California, with telehealth services available throughout the state, Tom has built and run businesses with real employees, real payrolls, and real complications: HR issues, compliance requirements, insurance negotiations, and the day-to-day work of growing something from nothing. He has also personally led acquisitions of businesses, including treatment centers and other healthcare practices, both for his own companies and on behalf of clients.
That operating experience shapes how he practices law. A business-owner client sitting across from Tom isn’t explaining their situation to someone who’s only read about it. They’re talking to someone who has lived it. His healthcare background also makes him especially well-suited to help physicians and other healthcare professionals with the full arc of their business and estate needs, from practice formation through sale.
Tom is also an active real estate investor, which gives him direct, practical insight into the real estate matters (acquisitions, holding structures, and more) that come up in nearly every high-net-worth estate plan.
Outside the office, Tom is a husband and father. He and his wife have been married since 2009 and are raising three kids, and Tom has built his own family’s estate plan. That personal experience, alongside his professional one, shapes how he counsels clients on protecting and growing assets across every stage of life: providing for a young family, building in the right incentives as children get older, and thinking through how to protect kids from themselves and from the world around them, not just from taxes and probate.
Tom’s background also includes something few estate planning attorneys bring to the table: direct experience in behavioral healthcare. Through his treatment centers, he and his team have worked alongside psychiatrists, addiction specialists, therapists, and interventionists, and have supported thousands of individuals and families navigating addiction and mental health treatment. That perspective directly informs how Tom structures estate plans for families facing these same challenges.

Because your matter gets handled by the attorney you hired, not delegated to whoever’s available. It also means faster turnaround, more direct communication, and pricing without the large-firm overhead.
Estate planning, trust administration and probate, business planning and entity structuring, asset protection, and related real estate matters.
No. Tom is licensed to practice law in California only.
Tom personally handles every matter: the strategy, the advice, and the drafting. His assistant, Kristina, supports with scheduling, document handling, and coordinating pickups, but she isn’t involved in giving advice or preparing your documents. That’s Tom, always.
